Severus Snape is, without a doubt, the greatest hero in this entire series. He spent YEARS being a triple agent so he could protect Harry - the last living piece of the girl he had hopelessly loved since he was a boy. He put himself in dangerous positions, had to take orders from the very man who killed his beloved as she begged him not to, and then had to kill the one man who had offered him salvation - and a choice.
He may not have seemed like a good person. Much less a hero. Heck, I HATED him for many of the books.
Why, Severus Snape, of course! Although Harry saved the wizarding world, he could only do it with Snape's memories. Plus, Severus also was extremely brave and spent years getting close to Voldemort.
I have soooo got to agree with most of my above posts.
Snape is such an amazing hero – also such a sad and lonely character.
Severus sacrificed everything he had for the protection of the wizarding world. You cannot ask for anything better than that now can you.
He was bullied as a child but his only shining light besides his studies and his own prevention was Lily now known to everyone but him as Lily Potter.
That’s right his best friend ran off with the man who made his life a misery -- even when he was dead. But not just any friend but his true love indeed.
When he realised the Potter’s was to be killed to begged with the Dark lord himself for her protection. HE begged and pleaded with VOLDERMORT himself.
He was also the informant who lets say, ‘let it slip’ that they were in trouble to Dumbldore – in that one action protecting her further.
Though when she died and all that was left of them was Harry – Dumbledore swore him for Harry’s own protection.
Never has he dissolved his promise and allegiance to that. However much it hurt him.
He stayed true to the very end. I just hope that it was different.
Even though I love Dobby, and Ginny and then of course Harry, Ron, and Hermione, I would have to say the greatest hero is Neville Longbottom. He took over after Harry left and without him there might not have been as many people behind Harry in the castle. He is extremely brave. He saved many lives, refused to torture first years, and killed Nagini; one of the last Horcruxs. I think that makes him the greatest hero.
I believe that Harry would typically be the greatest hero, but to me it's none other than Neville Longbottom. Afterall, if it wasn't for him Harry wouldn't have been able to defeat he-who-must-not-be-named. So, Neville is as stated by some the Chuck Norris of our generation.
I would have to say in my opinion Dobby is one of the most heroic characters in the series. He has always been willing to give his life for Harry and even his friends. He was proud to die for Harry. He was so brave and I cried when he died. He was very heroic.
Neville Longbottom. He goes from a little geeky not-so-good wizard to a complete badass who helps Harry a lot. Snape is also a great hero, even if we only get to see it in the end.
Snape. Hands down. He gave everything for love, and like Harry tells his son in the epilogue, he is one of the bravest and best men in the series. I cried my eyes out when he died in the last book.
I must say that I believe the most heroic characters are Fred&George Weasley. I cannot just choose one of them, because they are so often together. Though always trying to make light of the situation that they are in, are eternal pranksters, they constantly are there for you when you need them, facing the danger like everyone else and not being afraid to die. Fred died for the cause, and George lost an ear. They are the most loyal people, and are very brave.
Definitely Harry. He's been through so much yet he keeps going on. Most people would have given up by book 3. But I think the thing that really defines Harry as a true hero is the fact that he is able to walk to his own death. I don't think I would ever be able to walk to my own death and for that Harry will always be my hero.
Oh man! These books are filled with heroes. I'm going to choose Dobby. He did what no other house elf would have attempted to do. He tried to protect Harry when his master was trying to kill Harry. Even though his attempts to save Harry never ended to well for Harry but he tried all the same. Plus it was fun to read about.
There isn't just one. Not at all. Every single person up there is an amazing hero in the series. They all have their heroic finales and they all grow into their bravery. Not one of the characters listed is not heroic. They all sacrifice something, whether it be something small, or the ultimate sacrifice of their life. But, I do think that both Fred and George should be added to that list. In the final two books, when Voldemort became a very large and obvious threat, and when people found it hard to find any joy in the world, Fred and George gave joy to the people through their jokes and general cheeriness. But that didn't just start in the final two books, it was evident through all of the books. And laughter is a very important thing for people to have in times of fear.
The hero of these books is Snape, as so many others have said. He was willing to do anything to protect the girl he loved, even though he could never have her. Even after she was dead, he still protected her son because of that love. He did some pretty awesome stuff to protect Harry, even when he could be seen as the villan for it. Case in point: In book one, everyone thinks Snape was trying to kill Harry during the Quidditch match, when he was really saving his life.
This series is simply STUFFED with heroes! I agree that Snape turned out to be one of the most unlikely heroes. As did Neville... love that kid! Harry went through A LOT and never gave up, which is mighty heroic. All of the Weasley's are amazingly heroic. This is so hard! I think I'm going to put in a vote for Hermione. She remained a loyal to her friends and the fight against Voldemort and his minions. Even when she stood to lose the boy she loved, she remained in the fight & stood by Harry's side. I think true heroism is found in never giving up, regardless of the consequences to yourself. Hermione certainly sacrificed a lot... and she got a happy ending! I LOVE when that happens!
*thinks* Neville is amazing. Snape is amazing. Dobby is super-amazing. Dumbledore is amazing. Harry is amazing. But I'm loving all the Weasley's. I can't pick one.
No matter what, Ron was always with Harry, from the first page he appeared on in Sorcerer's Stone until the last in Deathly Hallows. The twins (RIP Fred) were always there to lighten the mood and terrify Professor Dumbridge, which definitely makes them a special type of hero. Ginny was always there to support Harry, and the two oldest, Bill and Charlie, even though they were in the background, were still very supportive, brave, and valiant fighters. Percy, not so much, though he came to his senses finally...sort of. Mr. Weasley was always entertaining and encouraged Harry. He took interest in Harry's Muggle information as well. :) As for why Mrs. Weasley is a hero? Although it's coming in the second movie, we all know about the Epic Molly-Bellatrix Showdown.

And did I mention that they're redheads, which just makes them more awesome?
The most heroic and brave character is Severus Snape. He went against the Dark Lord to try and protect Lilly and her family. After she was murdered he was so hearbroken he vowoed to protect Harry. His bravery as a doble agent and loyalty to Dubledore were extremely admirable, even if he had to embark in dangerous situations when having to aid the Dark Lord but trying to protect Harry Potter without revealing his cover. After so many years, he loved Lilly and loved her until his very last breath, there is no braver character than him.
I would say Neville Longbottom!!! Since the beginning he was always so closed off, until he became braver, and in the end it makes a lot of difference since he is the one that kills Nagini!!!
I feel like I'm just repeating what many others above me have said but to me the greatest hero of the Harry Potter series is Severus Snape. He went through so much pain and heart break and still gave up his life in the end.

Oooh Dobby!!! I love him so much! But i guess I have to go with Snape. I can't think of a bigger hero.
Snape.

But he's a hero. He really is.
I hate to be repetitive (REALLY hate it), but I have to go with Snape also.
Dobby for sure!! I mean, he's awesome and he loves Harry!!

The biggest hero is Harry but the real support behind it is is everyone. Nothing would be possible without them so they all have equal hero status.

Dumbledore or Snape. Maybe even Harry though I don't think he'd ever think of himself as one
