Rose Hathaway - Kicking ass with a side of sass
"You don't keep me around to be nice. You want nice, there are a dozen sheep in there who would rip each other's throats to get in good with the Dragomir princess. You keep me around to tell you the truth.”
She’s half-human, half-vampire (that’s dhampir to you) and 100% lethal to bad guys, especially if they’re Strigoi (red-eyed uber evil vampires). Her best friend Lissa Dragomir may be a Moroi royal princess, but Rose is queen of the comeback. She never misses a beat when it comes to punching back with words or fists, especially if someone threatens or insults Lissa. Rose hopes to be assigned as Lissa’s Guardian some day, and is fiercely devoted to protecting her friend -- even if it means throwing herself between Lissa and murderous Strigoi, conniving Moroi royals, and garden-variety high school beyotches. The unique shadow-kissed bond she shares with Lissa allows her to peek into Lissa's mind and keep tabs on her, and Rose unselfishly uses it to siphon off some of the darkness associated with Lissa’s use of spirit magic.
Her distaste for authority and tendency to mouth off never fails to get her into hot water with St. Vlad’s faculty, Guardian higher-ups, and even Queen Tatiana herself. But she doesn’t let good manners or the threat of punishment stand in the way of what she knows is right. Somehow punishments and ill will seem to slide right off her back anyway. Even the objects of ongoing feuds end up with begrudging respect for Rose, and then the sarcastic barbs she trades with them become almost affectionate.
Rose's unnerving beauty and natural fighting abilities should entitle her to the healthy supply of confidence she has, but outside of cutesy jabbing, she is never truly cocky. She has a good sense of humor about herself, and is willing to admit when she's screwed up royally. Though you never get the sense that she’s vulnerable in any aspect of her life, love is definitely her Achilles' heel. She has a particular weakness for a certain Russian Guardian in a cowboy duster (with questionable taste in music). And keeping her promises to him is about the only thing that could distract her from guarding Lissa.

Rose is kick-ass! I'm tired of reading books about Emo, scrawny, Vampire/Werewolf obsessed,whiny girls that can't protect themselves! Rose blows all of them out of the water

Hey Kristen and Sarah - I did take the image from book one so it is supposed to be Rose, but I chopped it and lightened it a bit because the cover image I had was a bit too dark to see her features. Sorry it does sort of make her hair look blonder and more Lissa-ish. But that devilish smile is totally Rose-worthy. :)
I should put a movie cast pick up instead, but I can't decide on my favorite choice for Rose - what do you guys think of Sophia Bush? I know Megan Fox has been mentioned, but I just don't see it frankly. What do you guys think?
I would like Sophia Bush or Odette Yustman (from You Again) for Rose. And Hayden Panettiere for Lissa!
I deff. agree with Jennifer ,i love the kick ass fighter Rose is who takes no crap from anyone and tells you how it is when you need to be told. I also love how caring she is and what a big heart she has.She is and always be my favorite kick ass fighting girl character.<3
i would like Megan Fox for Rose and i think Julianne Hough for Lissa !
i would love avril Lavigne or Rachel Evan Woods to be lissa and sophia bush seems ok but doesnt really fit the kick ass girl rose is ive thought bout it and thought maybe Michelle Tractenburg, Kat Dennings, Missy Peregrym. And Dimitri who i love lol could be Alexander Skarsgard from the series Trueblood on HBO and Christian could be Ian Somerhalder.
Rose is the BEST character i have EVER read about! She is sooo fierce and amazing! She doesn't let anyone or anything stand in her way. No matter who or what it is, she is not afraid to speak up and kick ass. I don't think she has ever really lost a fight in her or Lissa's defense! (:

i could see sophia bush playing rose but i think that the character should be played by someone not yet fameous so that we dont come in with any pre-concieved notions about the actress herself. As far as Hayden Panettiere for lissa... i cant see it. Shes too physically tuff to play lissa.
I absolutely LOVE these books and am so sad that the end is already here.

NO NO NO on Megan Fox! She would turn this amazing story into a skank-fest. Rose should be someone who is actually a bad-A, Im thinking Michelle Rodriguez would be perfect.

Rose is AMAZING.
I don't really like people with light colored hair. That's one of the main reasons why I love Richelle's characters so much. Lissa and Mia are really the only blonde ones.
Because, most books have the characters all, blonde and perfect, with no flaws whatsoever.
Rose definitley have flaws. But those flaws are what made Dimitri love her.

I am in love with this series!<3 when i read the first chapters i thought "This is like my skool! but we dont live there and
we aint mori, or dhampirs, or strigoi. But we do have the mean, the rich, and the tough." For me i think of myself as Rose,

Rose is.. Amazing. She's flawed and strong, everything you wish you could be, with exception to the anger problems. She is beautiful and confident, I only wish it didnt take so long for her and Dmitri to truely have a moment, I miss them :(

As far as casting goes an unknown actress should play her...someone not to familiar because they would kill it. Those actresses that we are not too familliar with usually have the best talent. <3 the VA series btw ;)

Now I've been with this series since it began and I LOVE ROSE!! So sad to see the series end but I cannot wait for the Bloodlines spinoff!!! Rose definitely gives a strong image for girls reading out there. If you like older romance books try the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. IT IS BY FAR THE BEST SERIES I HAVE EVER READ. The main character, Mackayla is a lot like a grown up version of Rose I think.
I have never loved a character in a book as much as I love Rose Hathaway <3 If they ruin her in the movie I will literally CRY!
