Booklolz: Bookish Dominoes, Game of Thrones Spoofs & more!
We can never get enough bookish spoofs, goofiness and unadulterated biblio worship. If you are fans of that kind of thing too, check out our collection of bookish (and book-to-movie/tv-ish) odds and ends below.
The Seattle Public Library set a new record for world’s longest domino book chain to promote their Summer Reading Program. Watch the incredible feat unfold in real time below. (Don’t worry, none of the 2,131 books were harmed during the filming of this video.)
If you are caught up on HBO’s Game of Thrones, you are now in that all too familiar state of being super excited and amped up about the story but knowing you have a whole year to wait until a new episode. If you haven’t watched it yet, well, I both envy you and feel sorry for you, you sweet summer child. It was quite a rough ride this season. Here are a few of our favorite Season 3 Game of Thrones spoofs to help ease the pain of waiting (and the pain of this brutal season).
Daenerys Targaryen has had a bang up season as she really begins to earn her Mother of Dragons title. One of our favorite moments in Season 3 was when Dany gets her army. We totally agree that she deserves the mother of all slow claps:
Dany and Friends is the coolest puppet show in Westeros.
Wrong Director imagines Game of Thrones with Zooey Deschanel, Aubrey Plaza and Michael Cera taking on the roles Dany Targaryen, Ygritte and King Joffrey.
Another of our favorite parts of Season 3 was the introduction of the perpetually sassy and fearless Olenna Tyrell. So of course, someone made a supercut of Olenna’s one liners right alongside the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey. These two ladies could smart ass each other into oblivion.
Jimmy Fallon fights for the Iron Desk in this Late Night Game of Thrones spoof Game of Desks:
If you haven’t yet seen Happy Place’s hilarious Game of Thrones Facebook Recaps, do yourself a favor and read them. While each recap is full of hilarious social media spoofing, nothing they’ve done so far beats the end of their Season 3, Episode 10 recap:
If you’re a fan of Arrested Development, you must check out Arrested Westeros, perhaps my favorite mash-up tumblr ever. Taste the happy, Westeros:

Everyone knows Cersei Lannister could teach a masterclass in stinkeye, so it’s hardly surprising that Vulture put together “The Many Bitchfaces of Cersei Lannister.”

It’s been too long since we had any new Catching Fire movie footage, but luckily there are plenty of spoofs to occupy our attention, including this Homemade Catching Fire Trailer and Tobuscus’s Literal Catching Fire Trailer:
In memory of James Gandolfini, who sadly just passed away, here’s a lovely video of him reading The Night Kitchen at the 92nd Street Y’s celebration of Maurice Sendak. Gandolfini’s part of the tribute starts at 43:50, and it’s awesome because he fearlessly commits to the story, doing all the voices with delightful gusto. Gandolfini met Sendak when he starred in the film adaptation of Where the Wild Things Are (a movie that made my inner child squee with delight).
Artist Ekaterina Panikanova‘s collection of book collages is strikingly beautiful. Head over to her site for more gorgeous bookish installation art.
We’re such huge fans of The Real Fauxtographer‘s gorgeous photographic odes to YA books, but she’s really outdone herself this week with her most daring fauxto yet, a tribute to the fantastically creepy Another Little Piece by Kate Karyus Quinn. Here’s a tiny sliver—click through to see the full fauxto in all its gory glory, and to hear how Hannibal, Brian Fuller’s beautiful and nightmare-making NBC show about Hannibal Lecter, inspired it.
