This song reminds me of the pain and secret resentments and longing in Kai and Elliot’s relationship in For Darkness Shows the Stars. Elliot and Kai are best friends as children, but there is an unspoken end to their time together as Kai’s place on her estate becomes more precarious. When he comes back to the estate a self-made Post, he seems determined to make her feel as discarded as he once felt when she didn’t come with him.
