We’re so thrilled to be hosting Kismet & HarlequinTEEN’s Pushing the Limits tour stop today! We absolutely adore this emotional, toe-curlingly romantic and beautifully written story, and have completely fallen for both of the main characters, Echo and Noah (ok, let’s face it, ESPECIALLY Noah).

About Pushing The Limits:

pushing

“I won’t tell anyone, Echo. I promise.” Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. “You didn’t do that-did you? It was done to you?” No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.

So wrong for each other…and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible. Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

Pushing the Limits Playlist

We were asked to come up with a playlist that reminds of us of our favorite parts of Pushing the Limits. It was tough to narrow it down, there are so many songs that would perfectly accompany all the MANY feels that are in this book, but this was our list:

You’ve Got the Love by Florence and the Machine

Sometimes it seems that the going is just too rough
And things go wrong no matter what I do
Now and then it seems that life is just too much
But you’ve got the love I need to see me through

Echo and Noah have both had traumatic experiences in their past, and they each face their own daily struggles, but they learn to lean on each other and support one another.

I’ll Try Anything Once by The Strokes

Seven ways to go through school
Either you’re noticed or left out

There is a time when we all fail
Some people take it pretty well,
Some take it all out on themselves,
Some they just take it out on friends,
Oh everybody plays the game,
And if you don’t you’re called insane

After Echo’s episode with her mother, she becomes an outcast at her school, and most of her friends abandon her. Rumors about her being crazy are all over the school, and most of her friends do nothing to discourage them.

Displaced by Azure Ray

I am displaced
And she’s my friend of all friends
She’s still here when everyone’s gone
She doesn’t have to say a thing
We’ll just keep laughing all night long

Lila is pretty much a rock star BFF, sticking by Echo through thick and thin, even when her other friends abandon her when her issues interfere with their perfect image.

Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want by She & Him (covering The Smiths)

Haven’t had a dream in a long time
See, the life I’ve had
Can make a good man bad

So for once in my life
Let me get what I want
Lord knows, it would be the first time
Lord knows, it would be the first time

Noah has had some of the worst luck possible, losing his parents and being placed in abusive foster homes. For the first time he wants a real connection, not just a night in the backseat of a car. He doesn’t feel like he deserves echo, but he still wants her.

Love Love Love by Of Monsters and Men

So I think it’s best we both forget
Before we dwell on it
The way you held me so tight
All through the night
It was near morning

Echo and Noah want to be together, but with her breakdowns and his quest to get his family back together, it seems impossible that they can reasonably be together in the future. They both have to face hard, heartbreaking truths.

Heart Skipped a Beat by the xx

Please don’t say we’re done
When I’m not finished
I could give so much more
Make you feel, like never before

Noah has trouble accepting that he might not be able to hang on to Echo, the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

I Remember by Yeasayer

I remember the smell of your skin forever
Love us being stupid together
You’re stuck in my mind
All the time

No matter how they try to stay apart, Noah and Echo can’t get each other out of their minds.

Shadows by Au Revoir Simone

Anyone can answer their own questions
All you have to do is look inside
You know it inside
You know it will be alright
I’m moving on
I hope your coming with me
Cause I’m not strong
Without you

Echo is struggling to remember what exactly happened the night she got all the scars and almost died at her mother’s house. The answers are locked inside her mind, and she knows she has to face them eventually. Noah is determined to help her face her demons and move on.

Look How Far We’ve Come by Imagine Dragons

Stop right there
I’ve got a hole inside my chest
And ’til it fills up
I won’t be satisfied
Time is taking over
Look how far we’ve come
Some were never meant to come around
Some were never meant to leave the ground
It’s time to take it over
Step out into the sun

Echo and Noah each have their separate moments of growth, and they find it hard to deny the chemistry and love between them. After everything they’ve been through, they deserve a fresh start and a new normal.

Ahhhh!!!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!!! And wow. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the number of exclamation points I just used? Such is the level of enthusiasm I have for this book:) I cannot wait to read Dare You To and get to spend some time in Beth’s head. I really liked her in Echo and Noah’s story and am so excited for her story in full.

And you guys put together an AMAZING playlist! I’m terrible at playlists, but I can easily see these songs fitting in PTL:)

  2.
    Larissa

Everyone is raving about this book, so I guess I’m late to the party. I’d love to win a copy!

  5.

Fantastic giveaway! I want that necklace. I loved PTL and I already have a copy of Dare You To and I will be hosting Katie on the blog in June> I can’t wait. Hmm bad boys that melt my heart, Noah of course and Rhett from Gone with the Wind and Paxton from Torched and…. I could go on and on. who doesn’t love a bad boy?

  6.

Really enjoyed this book and I would have to say that this vulnerable bad boy was a good swoony pick. :)

  7.

I’m DYING to read this book! I’ve heard the most amazing things about this story and the author. I can’t wait to jump on the bandwagon! As for who gets my heart going – that is a list too big to post here. I’ll have to go with Holder from Hopeless and Lucas from Easy for my top two, but I have a great feeling that Noah is going to make that list soon ;) Thank you so much for the post, music, and giveaway! <3

  8.

Wow. I just had a total jam session with your musical picks! LOVE!!

I’ve become a PUSHING THE LIMITS book-pusher at school lately. I don’t know if it’s because it’s springtime and the hormones are going but my readers and on the hunt fur stories of LURVE! Of course, McGarry’s book is at the top of *that* list!

  9.
    Kailee

I really want to read both Pushing the Limits and Dare To You. I don’t know much about the book, but this is some good music!

  10.
    Marissa

    Adrian Ivashkov, thanks!

  11.

Oh this is a great playlist, I love it! I’ll have to come back to look through and listen more carefully. :)

My favorite in YA is… geez, I’m not sure who my favorite YA boy would be. It’s weird cause a bunch of adult ones popped into my head. Maybe Noah from Mara Dyer actually. I might change my mind in a minute though. For adult books I would pick Joscelin from the Kushiels series by Jacqueline Carey and he would probably be my number one choice. Ever.

  12.

I Looooved Pushing the Limits! Great playlist I love Heart Skipped a Beat! I can’t wait for the sequel!

  13.

You have great taste in music! I love Imagine Dragons and The XX. Thanks for sharing! :)

  14.

I so need to read this series! I love a good bad boy! Travis Maddox will always be one of “the” bad boys for me.
    Thanks for the giveaway!!

  15.

I loved Pushing the Limits and I think you have a great compilation of songs here.

    IMAGINE DRAGONS. WAHOOO. Fab band.

Other than my fangirling, I like Florence and the Machine too, I think that choice is apt.

And Dare You To was a pretty good book. I’m looking forward to the third book in the series now. I just need it.

  16.
    Debby Chandler

too many good looking ones out there to pick just one!

  17.
    Andrea

    Sounds like an interesting book

  18.
    Abigail

I WANT THAT GRAND PRIZE!! And that book :)

  19.
    Abigail

Ok, and just to add to that, I really, really like Daemon, from Obsidian, because who won’t? *swoon*

And if he counts, ALEX!!!! (Delirium)

  20.

I read an ARC of this book and would love a finished copy for the shelf!

And if I had to pick a bad boy that sets my heart a-flutter it would be Warner from the Shatter Me series! *swoons*

  21.
    Siarah

cant wait to read! especially pumped for the second!

  22.
    Ari

I have no idea who my favorite bad boy is? Maybe Noah if I finally get to read Push the Limits?

  23.
    Wendy

I can’t wait to get my hands on this book.

  24.
    Michaela

I’ve been meaning to read this book and I’ve wanted to get my hands on it for awhile now, so I hope I can win so I will finally be able to read it! Good luck to everyone!

  25.

I’ve been absolutely DYING to get my hands on this novel. Unfortunately, I can’t really afford to hoard books at the moment, so I’ve been trying to finish my pile of abandoned literature in the mean time. But I’d be willing to take a break for this :D.

As for the question, I’d say my favorite bad boy would have to be Adrian Ivashkov from Vampire Academy (I loved him more in the Bloodlines series, though. You got to see his vulnerable side, which I adore).

  26.
    Anonymous

AH!! My friend told me about this book a long time ago, but I’ve never been able to get a copy! Favorite bad boy would have to be Patch from the Hush, Hush series.

  27.
    Zandalee

I really love Tod Hudson from the Soul Screamers series. He comes off as a bad boy with all his sarcasm and witty comments. He is constantly doing dangerous thing, but he does them with good intentions. He really is a softy when it comes to the girl he loves.
This is one of the things he said to her and it just made my heart melt:

“You’re not lost, Kaylee. You can’t ever be lost, because I’ll always know where you are. And if I’m not there with you, I’m on my way, and nothing standing between us will be standing for very long.”

    I mean….come on. *sniffles*
