Blog Tour Review: NEARLY FOUND by Elle Cosimano

I loved Nearly Gone, Elle Cosimano’s suspenseful mystery debut, and while it wrapped up in a satisfying way, I was beyond thrilled to hear we would be revisiting Nearly, Reece and their friends in Nearly Found. Nearly deals with the aftermath of the events of book one, worried that the damage done by her father and the mistakes he made may be her legacy. Some of her friends are wary of her and holding onto anger, and Nearly feels a tremendous amount of guilt. On the plus side, she has an internship at a crime lab, and her relationship with Reece is going strong.
While it certainly upped my enjoyment level to see familiar faces and to have the history with Nearly and Reece, I think new readers could easily pick Nearly Found up as a standalone without being confused. We jump into a new set of mysterious murders and cryptic messages, and it’s easy to pick up on past plot points that are relevant, and how Nearly’s abilities work. My only complaint is that there is a bit too much romantic angst, but it doesn’t detract too much from the suspenseful story.
This series gets compared to Kimberly Derting’s The Body Finder series, but in my opinion the Nearly Gone series is better written with more plot creativity and surprises. I was guessing until the very end in both books, and thoroughly on the edge of my seat, binge reading. If you enjoy suspenseful YA mysteries with strong characters, definitely give the Nearly Gone books a try! I hope we’ll get to revisit Nearly again in a future book, and I look forward to seeing what else Elle has in store for us.
