Character Interview: Brendan Salinger from Spellcaster
Welcome to the Author Corner!
Category: Character InterviewToday I have the pleasure of chatting with the gorgeous Brendan Salinger from SPELLBOUND / SPELLCASTER.
Not only is he an eternal romantic, and a bit of a posh bad boy, he is also an adorable music geek/DJ. So pretty much THE perfect guy. Too bad he’s taken…..
1. What is your favorite thing about Emma? Can you describe her in three words?
My absolute favorite thing about Emma? I’d have to say her strength. She’s strong in everything she does. She’s strong even when she thinks she has no fight left in her—but she’s got this quiet, endless reserve of strength that she can rely on. My girl’s tough and I love it.
For three words that describe Emma, I have to say strong (obviously, right?), clever (the things she says sometimes … I have no idea where she comes up with this stuff but she makes me laugh more than anyone ever has) and beautiful. I’m her boyfriend—if I don’t call her beautiful she’ll probably kick my ass (see first quality: strength) or verbally cut me down to size (second quality). But she really is beautiful—I’m not just saying that to win boyfriend points. I’m a lucky guy.
2. If you could DJ any club/event, what would it be? What’s the worst place you’ve ever DJ’d?
I’d absolutely love to DJ a Warped Tour afterparty. When the tour stops in bigger cities, they’ll totally have afterparties by the buses and stuff. I’ve seen pics online. That would be awesome. And I’d get play all the awesome bands that I don’t get to play a lot—Rise Against. Descendents. Finch. Death by Stereo. Fugazi. Madball. Social D. I could go on and on.
Worst place? Vince A school dances. Oh wait—no, I have it. I got into trouble and my mother volunteered me to play one of her friend’s kid’s birthdays. I had a strict playlist that I could not deviate from. Seriously, I was like a iPod with feet. All I had to do was hit play. Thank God for Spotify, because I didn’t have any of the music this guy wanted. Chris Brown? Horrible.
3. What would you tell a new student is the secret to surviving the shark-infested waters of Vincent Academy?
Don’t let those snobs treat you like you’re beneath them. They’re not better than you—no matter what they think. Money doesn’t make you a good person. Trust me, I know.
4. What’s the biggest regret you have (in this lifetime)?
I should have had a little more discretion and exercised some restraint in my life. I made a lot of rash decisions, definitely was an in-the-moment kind of person. I’ve learned that one little mistake can have very far-reaching consequences.
5. How do you feel about Angelique? Do you consider her a friend now?
I respect her, but I find her … challenging. That’s the word I want to use. I tolerate her because she’s so close to Emma. I don’t actively dislike her or anything—like, I don’t sit home and think about how much I don’t like her—but I don’t know if we’ll ever be friends. It would make my life easier if we were, but it’s hard to be friends with someone who hates you so much.
Thank you for stopping by Brendan! Emma is a lucky gal. And please come back any time….(SERIOUSLY. ANY. TIME.) *drools*
About Spellcaster
Finding your eternal soulmate – easy.
Stopping a true-love-hungry evil – not so much…
After breaking a centuries-old romantic curse, Emma Connor is (almost) glad to get back to normal problems. Although…it’s not easy dealing with the jealous cliques and gossip that rule her exclusive Upper East Side prep, even for a sixteen-year-old newbie witch. Having the most-wanted boy in school as her eternal soul mate sure helps ease the pain-especially since wealthy, rocker-hot Brendan Salinger is very good at staying irresistibly close….
But something dark and hungry is using Emma and Brendan’s deepest fears to reveal damaging secrets and destroy their trust in each other. And Emma’s crash course in über-spells may not be enough to keep them safe…or to stop an inhuman force bent on making their unsuspected power its own.
