Sometimes book-to-movie casting is so off the mark it makes you want to curl up under your covers and hide until the movie dies a quick straight-to-DVD death. And then sometimes, it is so incredibly CORRECT it is cause for JGL style dance-spazzing.

Well I hope you are all stretched and warmed up, because today’s casting news for The Mortal Instruments movie is of the dance-spazz-down-the-street variety.

First casting to rejoice: MAGNUS BANE

Anyone with two eyes can see that Godfrey Gao is a beautiful, beautiful man. But according to Cassie Clare, he brings a lot more than supermodel looks to the part.

“Godfrey is, in addition to being all gorgeous and stuff, super-talented (his audition was awesome), loves the books, and is, like Magnus, ridiculously tall.”

Sold and sold.

Second casting to rejoice: JOCELYN FRAY

Jocelyn Fray, Clary’s morally flexible overprotective mama-bear / kickass Shadowhunter, needs an actress who can be tough, loving, and fairly conniving. Lena Headey, who plays Cersei (the Queen of Mama Bear Scheming) on Game of Thrones, is pretty much the PERFECT actress to take her on and do her justice.

Cassie admits to having ”had an actress crush on Lena for years.”

I suspect after GOT and MI, anyone who isn’t already actress-crushing on her will be fully converted.

Third casting to rejoice: HODGE STARKWEATHER

Jared Harris has done the tortured moral roller coaster roles well in Mad Men and Sherlock: Game of Shadows, so he is the perfect actor to flesh out the complicated Shadowhunter tutor.

According to Cassie, “he’s got SAG awards and Emmys all over the place and I think he’ll really nail Hodge’s moral dilemma.”

Preach.

This rock star casting day leaves us incredibly excited about the film, and even more anxious about the biggest casting left-ALEC LIGHTWOOD.

If there was a rune that would make this shizz happen already, don’t think I wouldn’t have tried it on myself, human/rune dangers be damned.

The project starts filming next month, so Alec news MUST be forthcoming soon.

I could not be more excited for this movie now. Amazing casting so far. I am a fan of Jamie, I don’t get what all the fuss is about. ANd he isn’t engaged anymore, so I say go for it with Lily. I don’t care.

    LOVE THEM.

Even though I always imagined Hodge as bone skinny, grey/black pepper colored hair, greyish skin, slightly wrinkled – I have to say, he is PERFECT!!!!

Jocelyn, my first thought was – SHORT HAIR. I always thought of her with long flaming red hair, but she still looks perfect.

As with Magnus, until I was reminded I always thought of him in his thirties, then when I realised 19 I thought at least a LITTLE older looking and more of a larger build, but now my imaginary Mag is sooo replaced, kinda, still need to work on it.

Isabella is PERFECT! Say no more, I can’t wait to see her in golden whip fighting action (and at Magnus’s part ha ha)

I’m not happy with Simon though. I thought of him with short, stylish hair style, slightly flat, slightly spiky, jet black or dark brown-y black. Dark eyes, a slender build a little dorky looking, but simply normal and cool – WHO IS THIS GUY??? Ha ha, not Si definitely NOT!

I’m getting used to Clary, but JACE – he is ok-ish, but I thought his hair was more golden (guess they can deal with that) and more of a muscled build (guess they can change that too) but overall I guess what we see in our head can never actually be real for these kinds of things….CLONING!!! :D

Yes!!!! OMG YES!!!! I always imagined Jocelyn with really red hair, but Jennifer Lawrence was blonde and played Katniss, so I’m not too hung up on hair color. This cast seems to get better and better every time I check email :)
