Catching Fire Casting Heats Up
We’ve been clamoring for news on major Catching Fire castings pretty much since The Hunger Games hit theaters. Who will play the bronzed eight-packed sun god that is Finnick Odair? Who will play damaged-but-savvy Johanna Mason?
The casting rumor mill is heating up as actors come out of the woodwork to say they’re in the running, or would like to be (yeah, pretty much everyone in Hollywood except Taylor Kitsch WANTS to be in the movie). Let’s take a look at the latest rumors.
Johanna Mason

Entertainment Weekly asserts that Jenna Malone (Sucker Punch) is in talks to play Johanna. She even tweeted her fans to wish her luck on her audition.
Of course we also know that Kristen Bell (Big Miracle) wants to play Johanna more than anything else in the world, and that Naya Rivera (Glee) has also expressed interest.
Indiewire reported Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and model/actress Zoe Aggeliki (R.I.P.D.) were being considered for the part, but that has since been all but squashed.

Brutus

Kevin Nash (Magic Mike) told USA Today he is being considered for a Catching Fire part. Speculation is he’ll play Brutus, the forty-something former Career who volunteers for the Quarter Quell.
But according to MTV News he’ll be up against Victor Gojcaj (Unstoppable) and Kevin Durand (Lost).

Miscellaneous Casting

Romeo Miller, aka Lil Romeo, told MTV News he’s been in talks with Lionsgate for a role in the film, though he could not say which character he’s up for. Some speculate it may be Finnick, but Romeo has not confirmed this.
Plutarch Heavensbee
The role is still rumored to be Philip Seymour Hoffman’s.
Finnick Odair
Not much is known about Finnick casting, except that Taylor Kitsch does not want the role, and that Armie Hammer and Garrett Hedlund had been mentioned as frontrunners alongside him (though producer Nina Jacobson said this was not true). Several sites add Hunter Parrish to the mix, and Jesse Williams is still a fan favorite.

So basically…..we can assume that most hot actors of a certain age are “in the running.”
Obviously none of these casting rumors are any more than that until we hear it from Lionsgate. But the studio is definitely getting actors and actresses all in a tizzy, which means the casting end MUST be nigh.
J-Law Doesn’t Just Play a Heroine in Movies

Side note: this news item doesn’t really have much to do with Catching Fire casting other than to reiterate to the universe how perfect Jennifer Lawrence is for the role of Katniss Everdeen.
Jen displayed Katniss-like (or maybe Ryan Gosling-like) heroics when she came to the aid of a sick woman Monday in Los Angeles.

I totally could get behind Jena as Johanna. I was a huge fan of Naya for the part, but Jena was so awesome in Sucker Punch!
Totally! go jenna!
also, can we just confirm phillip seymour hoffman already? come on people
Ok, I know Jesse Williams may be a longshot, but I still reALLY want him to be Finnick. He is gorgeous and talented and perfect for the part. Well Taylor would have been my #1 choice. But Jesse is almost equal in my mind to TK.
