Allegiant Movie Split Into Two Films
allegiant split into two movies

Allegiant has joined the two film finale club! Part 1 will be released March 18, 2016 and Part 2 on March 24, 2017. Is it necessary to split this book into two movies? Probably not, but double the Theo James, double the fun, so I’m fine with it.

X-Men Spinoff for Mystique?

X-Men Mystique Jennifer Lawrence Spinoff

According to EW and X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner, there is a very real possibility of more character spinoff movies (such as the Wolverine spinoffs), and she made special mention of Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique.

“I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”

Umm… YES PLEASE! A female comic book solo movie that doesn’t bomb (*cough* Catwoman *cough*) is exactly what we need for more ladyhero movies to happen. I’m pretty sure everything J-Law touches turns to gold, or in this case, very pretty blue scales. Yes yes yes!

But before that happens, let’s not forget we have a new  X-Men movie to contend with first. Check out the latest featurette and clips for X-Men: Days of Future Past below.

Guardians of the Galaxy Clip:

Check out the latest clip from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy and see Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, “the legendary outlaw,” who has a total “do you know who I am?” moment. Even superheroes have VIP syndrome, apparently.

Paper Towns Heads to Fox 2000 With Nat Wolff

PAPER TOWNS to star Nat Wolff as Quentin

It’s pretty much a foregone conclusions that The Fault in Our Stars is going to do well at the box office, so it’s no surprise that studios are already thinking about the next John Green film adaptation. Fox 2000 scored the rights to Green’s Paper Towns, and they’re developing it with the same team behind The Fault in Our Stars with Nat Wolff set to play Quentin. Having seen Nat in the TFIOS trailer, and in Stuck in Love, I could not be happier about this news!

THE D.U.F.F. Movie to Star Mae Whitman

Mae Whitman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Arrested Development) is in talks to star in the film adaptation of Kody Keplinger’s The D.U.F.F., aka the Designated Ugly Fat Friend. One: LOVE that this is getting adapted, Two: Mae Whitman is neither ugly nor fat, Hollywood, nice try!

Whatever, I love her, I APPROVE.

Caine raised over $80K on Kickstarter last July for a webseries, and now Geek & Sundry, Felicia Day’s web production company, is preparing to shoot the series in Texas. Blake Calhoun will direct with Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) starring as the founder of Morganville, and Lindsay Siedel (The Final) playing Claire Danvers.

Dreamworks Takes On Eleanor & Park

DreamWorks has optioned Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor & Park for film, with Rowell set to pen the screenplay. Holly Bario, DreamWorks Head of Production told EW “The book is uniquely structured in that one chapter is told by Eleanor and one chapter is told from Park’s perspective, and they alternate. So we’re trying to figure out how to do that in a movie. There are all sorts of groovy stylistic things you could do with voice over, or words on the screen, but we want something that’s real Rainbow.”

Unremembered Optioned by Reliance Entertainment

UNREMEMBERED Trilogy Optioned for Film

Wow– So much YA movie news!
Not a fan of two part movies but not that surprised. Casting Theo James was def. the best casting move the film makers made, though… When I talk to teen girls, he is 100% the reason they’re loving that film. And uh, perhaps some older viewers have said the same thing.
The DUFF!! Like you, I love the fact that DUFF could be a film – I’m always trying to get people to read that book. But I agree: Mae Whitman is not who I pictured in that role. At all. But I will remain open-minded….

Gah so me of these I need to read still! I had no idea DUFF (loved it!) was going to be made into a movie or the Morganville Vamps (yay! love this fun series).

Wow. I had no idea so many books were being adapted into movies and TV shows. SO EXCITING!!! While I’m of course all for double the Theo James, I wish this trend of splitting the final book into two movies would pass. I can’t help but wonder whether or not something like that would even be considered if Harry Potter hadn’t paved the way. Harry Potter can do no wrong:) Still, more Theo James is always a good thing. *fans self*

    E&P!? Really?! FABULOUSNESS!

    Sorry I was excited. 😉

My brain is spinning! Gosh, so many YA books are getting adopted into movies that I cannot even. It’s nice and all but don’t people have some original ideas any more. Needless to say I don’t approve of Allegiant being split into two movies as it’s not really necessary. Thanks for sharing, Lauren 🙂

So much news! Thanks for putting it all in one spot. I miss so much! I think Mae for The DUFF is good, but I’m wondering how it’s going to go. She’s not ugly or fat so they have some work to do! Very excited for the If I Stay movie!

Sighs, 2 movies are often just for the money

I am glad that they will be covering the most important elements, but it will be a little werid so spread out and everyone aging.

Whoa that is a lot to wrap my head around. So many books being made into movies that I haven’t yet read but want to. I must get in gear. I am woefully behind on the X Men series. The last one I saw was the one with the young Professor X. I want to check out Jennifer Lawrence as Mystic! Thanks for all the info! I know it took some time to put this post together.

I am excited about Gone Girl what a twisted book, and ooh 5th Wave, that could be epic if done right!

So many books-to-movie projects, love it! I’m looking forward to so many of these, but I do think it’s ridiculous that Allegiant has been split into two! But you’re right, more Theo = fine by me!

    Mands @ The Bookish Manicurist

Woah what is up with all these YA movie adaptations? Hollywood has truly run out of ideas. I don’t feel like The DUFF is the kind of book that should be made into a movie. It’s quite honestly ridiculous. It’s most probably going to come across as a teenage high school drama and then people will slam it and refuse to give the book a try just like in the case of VA.
Also, Allegiant being split into two is a stupid idea. So many readers hated the book. And as good looking as Theo James is, he’s going to look even older.

Deathly Hallows is the only one that comes to mind that I feel rightfully deserved to be split in two – the other followers? I can’t help but think that they’re blatantly trying to eke out more money! Ultimately I’m with you on wanting more Theo James, but I truly hope they make the double films worth it. Other than that piece of news, I wholeheartedly approve of a Mystique spinoff and of Mae Whitman starring in anything!!
